PRID RESOLUTION

WHEREAS The Occupy Wall Street protest at Zuccotti Park in lower Manhattan started over one (1) month ago; and

WHEREAS Wall Street is the nation’s financial capital; and

WHEREAS said protest is aimed at drawing attention to and correcting the current gross inequities existing between the “99%” workers without jobs, job security and income commensurate with cost of living increases and the “1%” corporate executives with ties to Wall Street, who receive outsize and excessive annual incomes and bonuses; and

WHEREAS the right of the people peacefully to assemble and protest said inequities is guaranteed under the First Amendment of the United States constitution; and

WHEREAS Article 20 (1) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights provides that everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association; and

WHEREAS Article 23 of said Universal Declaration of Human Rights further provides that everyone has the right to work, to protection against unemployment and the right to just and favorable remuneration ensuring for himself and his family an existence worthy of human dignity; and

WHEREAS said protest over gross income disparities has grown and is spreading to other cities within and outside of the United States; and

WHEREAS said protest is completely just and appropriate under the prevailing circumstances,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT PARK RIVER INDEPENDENT DEMOCRATS hereby endorse and support the Occupy Wall Street protest and protestors.
